Projects
Despite an extensive, international career in communications for both private and public companies, my primary focus these days is on mission-driven, non-profit organizations seeking to address critical social issues. Here are a few recent examples of the work I've been doing.
Greater Boston Food Bank
The Greater Boston Food Bank came to me for the writing of their donor magazine, Harvest , which reaches 100,000 people quarterly and raises over $1m annually. My work for them has included speeches for the CEO and other executives, particularly for GBFB annual events such as 'Women Fighting Hunger,' as well as developing video scripts and providing select communications counsel.

26.2 Foundation
Established as a modest non-profit in 1996, the 26.2 Foundation supports and promotes marathoning, as well as education, health, wellness and economic development. Its signature project is the development of an International Marathon Center in Hopkinton, MA. I am a member of their board and have managed their communications for the last five years -- everything from building a subscriber database and creating a bi-monthly newsletter, to managing the development and roll-out of their website.

Business Council for Peace
Better known as 'BPeace', this award-winning non-profit works in crisis-affected communities to grow small and medium-size businesses, particularly in Latin America. It delivers high-quality, customized business consulting through volunteer business experts known as 'skillanthropists', a team to which I contribute, specifically in the areas of communications and marketing.

'A Map to Rule the World'
A narrative non-fiction book project
Lisbon, 1502: Commissioned by a spy, smuggled out of the country, lost during a riot, then curiously rediscovered later in a butcher’s shop, the Cantino Planisphere -- a map considered one of the most precious monuments of the world's geographic heritage -- revealed discoveries that the Portuguese Crown had sought to keep secret under penalty of death. The elegant and vibrant planisphere reflects the pivotal role played by Portugal in shaping not only cartography for half a century, but also the Age of Discovery and European colonialism, and thus the making of the modern world.
